Frances Lerner was born in Cleveland, Ohio and has lived in the San Francisco Bay area for forty years. She holds an MA and MFA from the University of Iowa where she studied with the renowned printmaking master, Mauicio Lasansky. After long periods of dedication to painting and sculpture, she has expanded into the use of experimental materials.
Her work is in the permanent collections of the Berkeley Museum of Art, the Austrian Embassy, University of San Francisco, and Oberlin College. In 2022, she was the artist-in-Residence of Salzburg, Austria. She is one of the artists in the Artist-in-Embassies program.
She lives with her husband, Kevin Shambrook, their cat, Season, and dog, Penley.
